Luke 1:35 And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His Kingdom there shall be no end.
The inscription above the cross relays the same message as the proclamation of the Birth of Christ. “Jesus is the King of the “Jews””!
One message on the cross is inscribed by Pilate; words of scorn. The other message at the time of the Birth of Jesus is proclaimed by the angel Gabriel; Saviour which is Christ the Lord, words of comfort and salvation. In both messages, God is pointing to His Child the Messianic King Who shall sit on the throne of David.
When we look at the inscription of Pilate in depth we must believe the words of Gabriel as did Mary. Faith only shows the glory of the Child of Bethlehem. The non-spiritual eye cannot see the royalty of the Child in the manger nor the Man of Sorrow on the cross.
Faith discerns the still hidden glory. The Messias, the Prince of Peace shall reveal the hidden glory, Who is promised to Israel, Abraham’s seed in the ancient days. This promise is fulfilled in Bethlehem where the Saviour comes into the world. A world that is full of guilt and shame. The Ruler over Israel shall be of the Root of David.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
The Messias shall come as the Everlasting King of Righteousness. In the fullness of time, God’s Son was brought forth of a woman from the tribe of Judah. He shall rule in Zion, the city of David.
The Messias shall come as the Everlasting King and Redeemer, at His Birth worshiped by the three wise men from the far East. “Jesus King of the “Jews”” * (see footnote and link) the words Pilate wrote. But Christ Jesus shall return and will be the Everlasting King to all kindreds, people, and nations. He shall sit on the throne of David.
The inscription on the cross was written in three languages. The little town of Bethlehem was to be known throughout the world. Meanwhile, the glory of the Kingdom remained hidden. He walked among us but remained incognito. His Life between the manger and the cross was without any glory and splendor. The way through this world went deep and caused loneliness and disruption. In the end, the mocking words remained on the cross.
The inscription indeed remained. It could not be changed. What Pilate had written, he had written according to God’s instruction, What the angel Gabriel proclaimed was spoken by God. That’s why Pilate only could acknowledge in writing what the messenger announced and foretold. The Lord GOD will give Him the throne of David and the Anointed shall be King over the House of Jacob forever.
He was promised and expected ages ahead of time. Angels sang to his glory. The prophets prophesied, about Him with delight. The Everlasting King would come in righteousness. His glorious rule was proclaimed in powerful words. And to His Kingdom shall be no end.
How blessed for Mary. The angel Gabriel spoke to her familiar words. Didn’t David, the man after God’s heart, already have the promise that his kingdom would be an Everlasting Kingdom?
This promise derived from David’s Kingdom is the deep and rich fulfillment in Him. The throne of David shall have more than earthly splendor. The eternal contours shall give their brilliance worldwide. The angels from heaven shall sing peace on earth. The LORD shall judge in righteousness. The Anointed shall heal the brokenhearted, and proclaim liberty to them that are bruised. To the poor, He will preach salvation. He shall rule with justice, wisdom and, meekness.
The Kingdom of Heaven, to all nations according to the promise given to Abraham and ordained by the Father of Christ. A wonderful Kingdom. For it is the Kingdom of the Son of God. A Kingdom full of God’s Love!
The Child of Bethlehem, Jesus Christ, is Precious in the eyes the of Father, has also become precious in the eyes of His children.
The Israelites and all nations are looking forward to the re-building of the Kingdom of Heaven of the Everlasting King!
